Lahore (May 19, 2025) — The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Peoples’ Lawyers Forum Punjab have issued a joint statement denouncing the “reprehensible” conduct of Station House Officer (SHO) Sumbaryal in Constituency PP‑52. According to the statement, PPP workers in the constituency have been unlawfully harassed, falsely arrested, and subjected to brazen demands for bribes—actions they say amount to “grotesque abuses of power.”
The statement further alleges that SHO Sumbaryal not only took the law into his own hands but also displayed disrespectful and demeaning behavior toward Raheel Kamran Cheema (PPP candidate for the Provincial Assembly, PP‑52), a member of the Punjab Bar Council and President of the Peoples’ Lawyers Forum.
Describing SHO Sumbaryal’s conduct as “cruel, illegal, and intolerable,” the PPP and the lawyers’ forum contend that this is not merely a personal vendetta but a serious challenge to democracy, justice, and the rule of law. They demand:
-
Immediate suspension of SHO Sumbaryal.
-
Provision of swift and fair justice to the affected workers and lawyers.
-
A neutral inquiry led by the Inspector General of Punjab Police, the Chief Minister of Punjab, and the RPO of Gujranwala.
-
Strict legal action against corrupt officers.
The parties have warned that if no concrete steps are taken by 5:00 PM today, they will launch a “resistance protest,” holding the Punjab government fully responsible for any ensuing unrest.
This joint declaration underscores the PPP’s and Peoples’ Lawyers Forum’s solidarity with the rights of Constituency PP‑52’s residents and signals an escalation of protest actions should the authorities fail to act.
