Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar gets extension
ISLAMABAD – Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar, whose retirement was imminent, has been directed to continue serving as the Chief of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in what is said to be the strategic continuity of Pakistan’s defense leadership amid tensions with India.
The decision, reportedly made at highest level, shows government’s confidence in his leadership during a period of heightened regional tensions and major operational milestones. Air Chief Marshal Babar led the PAF through a critical phase marked by enhanced operational readiness and international attention.
Under his command, Pakistan Air Force received widespread acclaim for its performance in joint operations, particularly where Chinese fighter jets operating in collaboration with Pakistan successfully downed Indian military aircraft, including advanced Rafale jets. The incident not only showcased combat capabilities of PAF but also elevated its strategic stature globally.
Sources indicate that his extended tenure aims to ensure stability and sustained excellence within the Air Force as Pakistan continues to strengthen its aerial defense posture. His leadership has been praised for fostering precision, professionalism, and unwavering dedication among PAF personnel. Recently, the Air Chief personally visited frontline units, engaging with pilots, engineers, and technical staff, and expressed deep appreciation for their role in defending the country’s sovereignty.
The decision to retain Air Chief Marshal Babar coincides with broader defense developments, including the elevation of Army Chief General Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal following the successful execution of Operation Bunyan um Marsoos and the strategic triumph of Marka-e-Haq.
