Gilgit-Baltistan witnessed a historic moment as Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari announced the abolition of the controversial "Khalsa Sarkar" law, a relic of the oppressive Dogra rule. Celebrating the restoration of land ownership rights for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, Bilawal declared that this marks a significant victory for justice and democracy.

Addressing the public, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized that the notorious law, imposed during the Dogra regime, had deprived millions of their fundamental right to property ownership. He credited the late Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for introducing land reforms across Pakistan but lamented that dictator Zia-ul-Haq had reversed these progressive measures, enforcing the exploitative "Khalsa Sarkar" system in Gilgit-Baltistan under the "Nautor Law of 1979."

The PPP chairman highlighted that his party had long championed the cause of land rights in the region, and today’s achievement culminates decades of struggle. He commended the ruling coalition and allied political parties for their unified support in passing the bill, acknowledging their commitment to public welfare. Bilawal reiterated PPP’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, vowing to continue advocating for their rights in line with their aspirations.

On this momentous occasion, Bilawal extended his congratulations to the resilient people of Gilgit-Baltistan, calling it a triumph of justice and democratic values. The repeal of the archaic law signifies a new era of empowerment and equitable rights for the region’s residents.
