Rotary International Delegation Meets Punjab Governor, Discusses Polio Eradication and Social Initiatives**
A high-level delegation from Sri Lanka, led by Pubudu De Zoysa, Special Adviser to the President of Rotary International, met with Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan at the Governor House in Lahore. The delegation included Dr. Shaheena Asif Choudhry, Central Zone Coordinator of Rotary International, and Rotarian Krish Fernando, a member of the Rotary Club of Colombo.
During the meeting, Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan commended Rotary International’s dedicated efforts and unwavering commitment to eradicating polio in Pakistan. He reiterated the government’s determination to make the country polio-free and highlighted the strong, friendly relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Governor also lauded Rotary International and its affiliated clubs in Pakistan for their significant contributions in key areas such as education, clean water, environmental sustainability, and public health.
Emphasizing the need for expanded outreach, Governor Khan urged Rotary International and local Rotary clubs to extend their programs to remote areas of Punjab, particularly focusing on providing access to clean drinking water and supporting education and literacy initiatives.
Pubudu De Zoysa expressed gratitude for the meeting and reaffirmed Rotary International’s global mission. He noted that the organization’s 1.2 million members across more than 200 countries are actively engaged in community development, with a special focus on eradicating polio worldwide in collaboration with local governments, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and other partners.
The discussions underscored the importance of continued partnership between Rotary International and Pakistani authorities to achieve shared goals in public health and social development.
