PPP MNA Sehar Kamran Raises Alarm Over Unpaid PTV Employees' Salaries
Ms. Kamran highlighted that both regular and contractual employees of the state-run broadcaster have not been paid, despite official assurances.
Islamabad – June 6, 2025:
Senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Member of the National Assembly (MNA), Sehar Kamran, has voiced serious concern over the continued non-payment of salaries to employees of Pakistan Television (PTV) News.
In a tweet posted on Thursday, Ms. Kamran highlighted that both regular and contractual employees of the state-run broadcaster have not been paid, despite official assurances made to the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting that salaries would be disbursed before Eid.
“It’s deeply concerning that salaries of @PTVNewsOfficial’s regular & contractual employees remain unpaid, despite assurances to the @NAofPakistan Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting that payments would be cleared before Eid,” Kamran stated.
According to the PPP lawmaker:
-
Regular employees are awaiting one month’s salary.
-
Contractual employees have not received payment for up to three months in the case of analysts and two months for other contract staff.
The issue has sparked alarm among media workers and advocates for labor rights, who have repeatedly urged the government to ensure timely disbursement of wages to employees in the public sector, especially ahead of major religious festivals such as Eid.
Despite repeated commitments from authorities, the delay in payments continues to add financial stress on media professionals working under challenging conditions.
Sehar Kamran’s remarks underscore growing dissatisfaction among parliamentary members with the management of public institutions and raise renewed calls for accountability and timely action to address the grievances of media workers.
