Thailand Hosts "Wellness Journey" to Promote Health Tourism Globally
"Thai Wellness" as a soft power strategy, combining traditional herbal wisdom with modern health technologies to position Thailand as a "Mindfulness Country."
Thailand's Government Public Relations Department is hosting a two-day "Wellness Journey" event on 17-18 June 2025 in Nakhon Pathom Province, bringing together over 20 local and foreign media representatives and influencers to showcase Thailand's potential as a Global Medical and Wellness Hub. The event was opened by Dr. Nutthanun Rajanakorn, Executive Director of PRD's Foreign Affairs Office, with welcome remarks delivered by PRD Director-General Mrs. Sudruetai Lertkasem.
Thailand's health and wellness tourism industry generated over USD 12.34 billion in 2023, with 119.5% growth driven by international tourists who spend 35% more than regular travelers. The government is promoting "Thai Wellness" as a soft power strategy, combining traditional herbal wisdom with modern health technologies to position Thailand as a "Mindfulness Country."
The first day of the event featured a panel discussion on "Advancing Health Tourism through Thai Soft Power and Modern Wellness Trends to Strengthen Economic Security." Dr. Monthaka Teerachaisakul from the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine highlighted how Thai identity shapes health tourism development. Ms. Supornthip Choungrangsee, Chairman of the Wellness Industry Promotion Subcommittee, and Dr. Nuttapon Pinnimitr discussed soft power as a key driver in Thailand's wellness sector advancement. Mr. Anak Navaraj, founder of Patom Organic Living, presented the Sampran Model—a blueprint for linking wellness with community economy and environmental sustainability.
Participants also experienced hands-on wellness activities including crystal sound therapy, hydrotherapy, rainbow meal tastings, and visited chemical-free agricultural sites.
Nakhon Pathom was selected as the venue due to its proximity to Bangkok and potential as a "Wellness Hub Near the City."
The initiative serves as both a demonstration of Thailand's wellness capabilities and a global platform to promote the country's health-focused soft power strategy.
