Pakistan Secures Landmark Legal Victory at The Hague, Sehar Kamran lauds Bilawal Bhutto for Diplomatic Leadership
She commended PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his “skilful and exemplary diplomacy”
Islamabad, 28 June 2025 — In a significant diplomatic triumph for Pakistan, the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) at The Hague has delivered a Supplemental Award that upholds the Indus Waters Treaty and rejects India's attempt at its unilateral suspension. The decision marks a pivotal moment in the long-standing water dispute between the two South Asian neighbors.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and Member of the National Assembly, Sehar Kamran, took to social media to celebrate the development, calling it a “landmark victory for Pakistan at The Hague.” She commended PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his “skilful and exemplary diplomacy” which, she said, played a central role in securing this favorable outcome.
"With global insight, he championed Pakistan’s cause, dismantling India’s rhetoric with principled resolve," Kamran stated.
According to Kamran, Bilawal Bhutto’s efforts helped expose India’s treaty violations and highlighted the global risks of water-related conflict, particularly in the context of climate stress and regional instability. She credited his incisive leadership and diplomatic clarity for building a strong international case that ultimately resonated with the global legal community.
The PCA’s decision is being seen not just as a legal affirmation of Pakistan’s position under the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, but also as a rebuke of India’s recent moves to suspend key treaty mechanisms without mutual agreement.
Observers note that this outcome may ease tensions over water-sharing and provide a renewed opportunity for diplomacy between Islamabad and New Delhi.
