PPP Has Always Stood for Press Freedom, Says Sania Kamran During Meeting with Bureau Chiefs

Lahore, July 25, 2025 — Sania Kamran, leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and former Member of the Punjab Assembly, reaffirmed the party’s historic and unwavering commitment to press freedom, democracy, and human rights during her recent engagements with the media in Central Punjab.

She has been assigned the responsibility to manage and oversee media and information-related affairs in Central Punjab on behalf of PPP Central Information Secretary Nadeem Afzal Chan. The responsibility was formally given during a recent meeting at the Governor House Punjab.

As part of her new responsibility, Sania Kamran has initiated a series of meetings with senior journalists to enhance coordination between the party and the media. After meeting with English-language newspaper journalists, she organized a reception at a local hotel in honor of bureau chiefs from various television channels.

The event was attended by several prominent media figures including Tariq Butt, Nasrullah Malik, Zeeshan Baksh, Mian Shahid, Hassan Mahmood, Saleem Sheikh, Mian Naveed, Rizwan Naqvi, Azam Chaudhry, Adnan Malik, Bilal Ahmed, Ilyas Ahmed, Shakeel, and Ibn Ali.
Other notable attendees included Farrukh Basir, Basharat Ali, Hassan Ghuman, Hassan Abbas,  Junaid Qaiser, and Hassan Gondal.

During her address at the event, Sania Kamran stated:
"The PPP has always stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the journalist community. Our leadership has remained the flagbearer of press freedom and democratic rights. We have made sacrifices not only for democracy but also for civil liberties and human dignity."

She further emphasized that freedom of expression is a fundamental constitutional right, adding that, "PPP governments and our parliamentarians have consistently passed legislation to promote press freedom and ensure the safety and respect of journalists."

In response, the bureau chiefs expressed appreciation for PPP’s continued support of press freedom and shared practical suggestions for building a more effective and structured liaison between the media and the party.

This outreach reflects PPP’s growing efforts to revitalize its engagement with the press in Punjab and strengthen its presence in the province through dialogue and inclusive communication.
