LAHORE: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza issued a strong statement on Saturday, demanding immediate government intervention to address the devastating land erosion crisis affecting Sambal village in his constituency.

The PPP leader expressed grave concern over the ongoing environmental disaster that has forced villagers to abandon their homes and face severe economic hardship. "Due to land erosion, villagers are being compelled to leave their homes, and people are experiencing significant economic difficulties," Murtaza stated during his address.

Highlighting his personal connection to the affected area, Murtaza emphasized the spiritual bond he shares with the village community. "I have a spiritual connection with the village," he declared, underscoring the severity of the situation where extensive land erosion and economic devastation have left countless families homeless and displaced.

The PPP leadership has issued urgent appeals to federal and provincial governments, as well as local administrative authorities, calling for swift and decisive action to protect the vulnerable communities. "We demand from the government and administration that they immediately construct embankments and dams to safeguard these at-risk communities," Murtaza announced, reaffirming the party's steadfast commitment to supporting the displaced villagers.

According to Murtaza, essential construction materials, including boulders necessary for protective infrastructure, are readily available but remain unutilized despite the critical need for immediate action. The PPP leader criticized the current governmental approach, arguing that "instead of prolonged consultations and delays, practical measures should be implemented immediately to address this crisis."

The party leadership emphasized that protecting citizens from displacement constitutes a fundamental governmental responsibility that cannot be overlooked. "Safeguarding people from becoming homeless is the government's primary duty," the official statement declared, highlighting the urgent nature of the crisis and the need for immediate intervention.

The land erosion in Sambal village represents a growing environmental challenge that threatens the livelihoods and safety of rural communities across the region. The PPP's call for action underscores the critical need for comprehensive disaster management and preventive infrastructure development to protect vulnerable populations from natural disasters and environmental degradation.
