Punjab Governor Distributes Relief Materials to Flood Victims, Sends Aid to Gaza
LAHORE: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan led multiple humanitarian initiatives on Sunday, distributing relief materials to flood victims from three districts and dispatching aid to Gaza and Palestine.
Governor Khan served as the chief guest at a ceremony distributing relief materials to flood victims from Chiniot, Muzaffargarh, and Kasur. The event was organized to commemorate the birthday of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The ceremony was also attended by PPP Central Punjab President and former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, senior party leader Faisal Mir, and other officials.
During his address, Governor Khan praised the Pakistan Peoples Party as "a party of the common man" that deeply understands the suffering of flood victims. He commended Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for choosing to help flood victims rather than celebrating his birthday with elaborate festivities.
"This is a revolutionary step by Chairman Bilawal which is commendable," Khan stated. "Instead of celebrating his birthday with pomp and show, he has won everyone's hearts by helping the flood victims."
The governor expressed his personal distress after visiting flood-affected areas including Jhelum, Chakwal, Muzaffargarh, Alipur, and Jalalpur. He detailed that senior PPP leader Faisal Mir has arranged comprehensive relief packages for each affected household, including one month's food rations, four beds, one bicycle, storage boxes, and complete household equipment.
Governor Khan also appealed to philanthropists to participate actively in disaster relief and rehabilitation efforts. He extended special thanks to the Punjab Red Crescent and Sweet Home organizations for their assistance in flood relief operations.
Former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf emphasized that the PPP's humanitarian efforts are not motivated by political point-scoring. "Our party has always felt the pain of the poor and has quietly helped common people," he said. "It is characteristic of the Pakistan Peoples Party to help suffering people on Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's birthday."
Earlier in the day, Governor Khan oversaw the dispatch of relief aircraft to Gaza and Palestine from Lahore Airport on behalf of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
Speaking at the airport ceremony, Governor Khan described the Palestinians as "our brothers" and emphasized Pakistan's duty to support them. He revealed that Pakistan has sent 23 consignments totaling 2,227 tons of goods to Gaza and Palestine, including clothing, medicines, dry rations, and food items.
The governor praised the Prime Minister and NDMA for their timely response in providing aid to Gaza. He strongly condemned Israeli actions, stating that "Israel has become a threat to world peace" and calling attention to the daily casualties among innocent Palestinian children and civilians.
Governor Khan urged the United Nations to take strict action against what he termed "Israeli terrorism" and called for unity among Islamic countries to support Palestine. He condemned Israel's bombing campaigns in Gaza and Palestinian urban areas as violations of humanitarian principles.
The humanitarian initiatives reflect ongoing Pakistani support for both domestic disaster relief and international solidarity with Palestinian civilians affected by the conflict.
