PPP Vows Full-Scale Participation in Lahore Local Body Elections, Warns Against PML-N Interference
LAHORE – The Pakistan Peoples Party has announced its intention to field a complete slate of candidates from every union council in Lahore for the upcoming local body elections, while warning the provincial government against any attempts to manipulate the electoral process.
Faisal Mir, the Central Punjab leader of the PPP, made this declaration while addressing a crucial meeting of party workers focused on preparations for the local government polls. The gathering saw participation from prominent party figures including Majeed Ghauri and Khurram Farooq Advocate, among other leaders.
Speaking at the meeting, Mir emphasized that the party would mount strong resistance against any efforts by the PML-N provincial government to influence or interfere with the local body election proceedings. He underscored the party's commitment to presenting candidates representing diverse perspectives and backgrounds to ensure genuine public representation in its truest form.
In a significant organizational announcement during the ceremony, party leader Majeed Ghauri revealed that the PPP is establishing a central election office in Johar Town, which will serve as the command center for coordinating the local body campaign throughout Lahore. He issued clear directives to party workers and prospective ticket holders to commence election preparations immediately and accelerate their public outreach efforts.
Ghauri stressed that the PPP would position itself as the champion of ordinary citizens in the local government elections, reinforcing the party's traditional identity as an advocate for common people.
Khurram Farooq Advocate outlined the party's grassroots strategy, stating that PPP candidates would conduct door-to-door campaigns to communicate the party's manifesto directly to the residents of Lahore. He expressed confidence that voters in the provincial capital have grown disillusioned with both the PML-N and PTI, suggesting that citizens are now prepared to give the PPP an opportunity to govern at the local level.
The meeting concluded with party workers expressing their resolve to execute an energetic and comprehensive election campaign for the local government contest, signaling the PPP's determination to make significant inroads in Lahore's municipal politics.
