The latest newsletter of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) has recognized the exemplary reforms of the Punjab Assembly. Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has taken significant steps to ensure transparency, accountability, and public inclusion. As a result, the Assembly's performance has improved, and women and minorities have been empowered.

Through these reforms, the committees of the Punjab Assembly were granted exceptional autonomy, which is essential for transparency and accountability in a democratic system. The Speaker ensured that the committees work on public issues independently and implement their recommendations effectively.

An unprecedented step to enhance women's inclusion was making it mandatory to have two female members in each committee. Additionally, a Women's Parliamentary Caucus was established to ensure their participation in legislative processes. Addressing the concerns of minorities, a Minority Caucus was formed, guaranteeing that the voices of all minority groups are heard in the Assembly.

To bring transparency to the legislative process, public hearings and expert testimonies were introduced. This not only increased public trust but also improved the quality of legislation. Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan prioritized public participation, a fundamental principle of true representation in a democratic system.

These steps are just the beginning, laying a strong foundation for democratic progress in Pakistan.
