In the tranquil embrace of a Ramadan evening, the residence of former MPA Sania Kamran transformed into a hub of political insight and camaraderie. Known for her refined hospitality, Kamran hosted an Iftar dinner that blended the sanctity of breaking fast with vibrant political dialogue, honoring Syed Ali Heider Gillani, the Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Punjab.
The gathering welcomed a distinguished group of PPP figures, including female MPAs Shazia Abid, Neelam Jabbar, and Nargis Faiz Malik, as well as the seasoned Barrister Aamir Hassan. As the call to prayer signaled the end of the day’s fast, the attendees shared a meal and a collective vision for the party’s future.
Ali Haider Gillani, the evening’s center figure, delivered a compelling call to action. With a tone of resolve and optimism, he emphasized that the dedication and strategic organization proven successful in South Punjab could unlock victories in Central Punjab. “Hard work in constituencies, backed by a strong party framework, can lead us to great success across Punjab,” he declared, inspiring a shared sense of purpose.
"If we can win seats in South Punjab through dedication and a robust strategy, then Central Punjab is within our reach," Gilani asserted, connecting the party's existing victories to untapped potential elsewhere in the province.
"If candidates work diligently in their constituencies, leveraging party narrative and strong organization, great success can be achieved in Punjab," he continued, outlining a vision for expanding the party's influence.
The discussions addressed pressing issues facing both the party and the province. Mumtaz Chang, another key voice in Punjab Assembly, raised concerns about the persistent threat of khacha dacoits (bandits), urging immediate action from the Punjab government. His impassioned plea highlighted the urgency of addressing regional lawlessness.
During the meeting, media reported Chang's warning that if the PPP were politically marginalized, repercussions would extend to the federal level—underscoring the interconnectedness of provincial and national politics.
A consensus emerged among the Punjab MPAs: to effectively address workers' concerns and establish a stronger foothold in the province, joining the government—at least at the provincial level—might offer a pragmatic path forward.
Sania Kamran, the evening’s gracious host, brought a distinctive voice to the Iftar gathering at her residence. Her tenure as a former MPA and past President of PTI Punjab endowed her with a deep understanding of the political terrain, which she shared through thoughtful engagement with her peers. Her insights, rooted in a rich and varied political background, enriched the night’s discourse.
She passionately championed the empowerment of the PPP’s younger leaders, proposing that entrusting a new generation with meaningful roles could reinvigorate the party’s standing in Punjab. Her vision for renewal resonated with the attendees, who nodded in approval, recognizing the value of fresh perspectives and dynamic energy in revitalizing the organization.
I think the party should give responsibilities to individuals like Sania Kamran, whose combination of youth, experience, and political wisdom could help lead the PPP back to its former strength in Punjab. The consensus view was that her background and capabilities represented exactly the kind of leadership the party needed to navigate current challenges.
As the evening drew to a close, the gathering left a profound mark—a powerful reminder of dialogue’s role in shaping political trajectories. Beyond the communal breaking of the fast, it was a space where ideas took root, strategies aligned, and relationships deepened. Under the serene Ramadan sky, the groundwork for progress was laid, driven by a collective dedication to unity, community, and the PPP’s resurgence in Punjab.
Reflecting on the night, attendees acknowledged that such gatherings, meetups extend far beyond mere socializing. They offer an indispensable platform for reflection, discussion, and strategic planning—essential elements to steer the PPP toward a more robust future in the province. Sania Kamran’s blend of experience, youthful insight, and political acumen stood out as precisely the kind of leadership the party needs to reclaim its former prominence in Punjab.
