No Arrests After Threats Against Munizae Jahangir, WJAP Expresses Concern
WJAP condemns threat & trolling of Senior journalist , anchor Munizae Jahangir
Women Journalists Association of Pakistan (WJAP) has strongly condemned the threats of some extremist elements against journalist Anchor and human rights defender Munizae Jahangir.
In a statement issued on Wednesday Founder of WAJP Fouzia Kalsoom Rana has said that these extremist elements seemed to have no fear of law. "It seems they have a strong sense of impunity which prompts them to openly hurl threats at Munizae Jahangir who is not only a well respected journalist but a prominent human rights activist."
She bemoaned the inaction of the Federal Investigation Agency and other concerned departments over these threats. "Their threats are doing rounds on social media and all authorities are aware of such threats. Even then no case has been registered against these extremist elements nor was anyone arrested."
Fouzia Rana demanded that these elements be arrested immediately and Jahangir is provided protection. "Such elements cannot deter journalists from performing their professional duties."
"The WAJP believes that such threats should not be dismissed and that immediate actions must be taken against those who hurled the threats or the WJAP would have no option but to protest at all forums."
She expressed their solidarity with Jahangir. "The entire journalist fraternity stands with Munizae in solidarity and no amount of threats can deter them from speaking for their fellow media persons."
