Bilawal presses PM Shehbaz to roll back controversial canals project on people's demand.
Larkana: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said on Friday that he will continue to stand with the centre.
Addressing a public gathering at the Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, held in line with the 46th death anniversary of former president Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Bhutto-Zardari said: "Learning from our mistakes is an agenda of the PPP."
Bhutto-Zardari added, "We ourselves are responsible for the rising terror wave in the country."
The former foreign minister stated, “It was agreed with the government that the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) will be formed in collaboration with the government. We will not vote for the approval of the budget without holding consultations on the PSDP.”
“I am the son of Benazir Bhutto, and I will thwart every conspiracy against the country,” he said.
"We have to end a sense of deprivation. The people of Pakistan have been martyred to make the foreign conspiracy a success," Bhutto-Zardari said.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to roll back the controversial canals project, saying that if the people oppose these canals, his party would stand by them, not the government.
"Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif [Sahab], this is the demand of the people, not just ours… If we are to stay united as brothers, the project must be withdrawn," the PPP chief said.
Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said he has fought the case for fair water distribution at the global level and urged the international community to help protect the Indus River.
Bilawal said, "I have taken the battle over water distribution to the global stage. I have told the world that we must save our River Indus."
He added that the issue of water theft by India has been consistently raised during his tenure as foreign minister. "India continues to steal our water, and I have taken on this challenge internationally," he said.
Reflecting on the party’s legacy, Bilawal said, “We are all the flag-bearers of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and we have gathered here to pay tribute to him. President Asif Ali Zardari fulfilled his duty by pursuing a presidential reference that finally delivered justice to Shaheed Bhutto.”
He added that after five decades of struggle, the people’s court has declared Bhutto innocent, and justice has prevailed.
Highlighting the achievements of the PPP during Zardari's presidency, Bilawal said the restoration of the 1973 Constitution through the 18th Amendment reinstated the vision of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. “Through this amendment, Zardari returned rights to the provinces and honoured the legacy of the Quaid-e-Awam,” he stated.
He also noted that Bhutto was awarded the Nishan-e-Pakistan for his relentless struggle for the rights of the working class.
Touching upon the need for judicial reforms, the PPP chairman said that constitutional courts would ensure equal representation and that the political situation in the country has reached a critical point. He reiterated that the PPP has always raised its voice against terrorism and will continue to do so.
