Former MPA Sania Kamran Condemns Police Raids on PPP Leader Mumtaz Ali Chang's Residence
She demanded an immediate and transparent investigation to protect the constitutional rights of elected representatives and uphold democratic integrity.
Lahore – Former Member of the Punjab Assembly and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sania Kamran has strongly condemned recent police raids on the residence of fellow party leader and sitting MPA Mumtaz Ali Khan Chang.
In a statement issued to the media, Sania Kamran expressed deep concern over what she described as "blatant misuse of power" and "political victimization" against Mumtaz Chang. "Raiding an elected representative's home without justification is not only a violation of democratic norms but also an attack on the dignity and rights of public representatives," she stated.
The condemnation comes after Mumtaz Ali Chang revealed during a speech in the Punjab Assembly that police raided his home twice following Eid. He alleged that on the most recent occasion, his official security detail was withdrawn at 5 AM, only for the police to launch a raid an hour later, during which five innocent individuals were reportedly detained.
Chang attributed the actions to personal vendettas within the police force, particularly from the DPO Rahim Yar Khan. According to him, he had earlier presented evidence in the Punjab Assembly against two Station House Officers (SHOs) involved in corruption, which led to their dismissal. He believes the raids are retaliation for his anti-corruption efforts.
Sania Kamran echoed his concerns, saying, "If representatives are punished for raising their voices against corruption, it sends a dangerous message to all who stand for transparency and accountability. The government must ensure that no officer uses the state machinery for personal vengeance."
She demanded an immediate and transparent investigation into the raids and called on the Punjab government to protect the constitutional rights of elected representatives and uphold democratic integrity.
