ISLAMABAD - May 1, 2025 - Member of National Assembly and central leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Sehar Kamran, issued a powerful statement today commemorating International Labour Day, highlighting the critical contributions of labourers to Pakistan's economy while emphasizing the mounting challenges they face.

In her message, MNA Kamran described labourers as "the heartbeat of our economy" whose contributions extend across all sectors of society. "Their hands build our cities, sow our fields, and sustain our lives," she noted, recognizing their fundamental role in national development.

The parliamentarian drew attention to the multiple crises affecting Pakistan's working class, particularly those in the agricultural sector. She pointed to rampant inflation eroding workers' purchasing power, escalating farming costs coupled with inadequate wheat prices, worsening climate change impacts on crop production, and growing water scarcity threatening agricultural livelihoods.

"Despite these hardships, their spirit endures," Kamran observed, characterizing labourers not merely as workers but as "pillars of our society" whose resilience demands concrete support through policy measures.

The PPP leader called for comprehensive reforms including fair wage structures, targeted assistance for farmers, and bold policy initiatives to address climate change and water shortage challenges. "Their well-being is our collective duty," she emphasized.

Quoting an Urdu couplet—

"تو قادر و عادل ہے مگر تیرے جہاں میں،

 ہیں تلخ بہت بندۂ مزدور کے اوقات"

—which reflects the harsh realities faced by workers even under a just and omnipotent order, she urged that "their struggles should inspire our commitment."

Ms. Kamran concluded with a rallying cry: "This Labour Day, let us stand in solidarity today for a thriving tomorrow, and build a future where every labourer thrives." Her message aligns with PPP's long-standing commitment to social justice and economic equity, as the party continues to advocate for labour rights and rural development within the National Assembly.

International Labour Day, observed annually on May 1st, commemorates the historic struggles and achievements of workers' movements worldwide and continues to serve as an occasion to advocate for improved labour rights and working conditions.
