Lahore : The central leaders of the Pakistan People's Party have expressed their full solidarity with labourers on International Workers' Day, saying that May Day teaches us a lesson to move forward with the determination of the workers. On May 1, the workers of Chicago sacrificed their lives for a dignified job. Former Prime Minister and Pakistan People's Party Central Punjab President Raja Pervez Ashraf said that Bhutto Shaheed gave the workers the right to form unions and Bibi Shaheed got the workers' leaders released as a political revenge, while President Asif Zardari increased salaries and pensions in his first term. In-charge of People's Labor Bureau Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed said that May 1 is the day to salute the workers of Chicago, today their white flag turned red after being soaked in their blood. He said that during its tenure, the PPP increased wages by 135 percent and pension by 100 percent. All anti-labor laws were abolished. Labor cards have been issued in Sindh and by declaring May Day a holiday, it created unity with the international labor movement. Chaudhry Manzoor said that Shaheed Bhutto laid the foundation for celebrating Labor Day in Pakistan, but today there are terrible attacks on workers in Pakistan and Punjab. Today, 17,000 schools and 13,000 hospitals are being sold here and people are being made unemployed in the name of privatization. Only 200,000 workers are being removed from federal institutions. There is a need to resist and condemn this process today. Pakistan People's Party Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza said that the workers of Pakistan are still oppressed and exploited. It is a victim of tyranny, it is exploited on the basis of social security and contract system. We demand that kiln and farm laborers be given their legitimate rights and privileges. The Pakistan Peoples Party will not let the stoves of the workers' homes go cold in the name of privatization and will continue to raise its voice for the rights of the workers at every forum.
