ISLAMABAD – President Asif Ali Zardari met with Sindh’s Irrigation Minister, Jam Khan Shoro, at the President’s House on Saturday to discuss critical reforms needed to address water management challenges in the province. During the meeting, Minister Shoro provided a comprehensive update on the progress of ongoing irrigation projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing Sindh’s water distribution networks.  

 

President Zardari underscored the importance of adopting efficient and sustainable water-use practices to meet the province’s growing agricultural and domestic demands. He emphasized the urgent need to upgrade Sindh’s outdated irrigation infrastructure, particularly to ensure equitable water access for farming communities and other sectors. “Prudent management of water resources is not just vital for current food security but also a responsibility we owe to future generations,” the president stated, urging immediate action to curb wastage and optimize existing systems.  

 

The president directed the Sindh government to prioritize technological innovation and modernization of irrigation mechanisms to combat water scarcity. He called for integrating advanced agricultural practices and stressed the importance of collaboration between federal and provincial authorities to secure funding and expertise. “Adopting smart irrigation solutions and improving coordination will be key to overcoming these challenges,” Zardari remarked.  

 

In response, Minister Shoro assured the president that the provincial government is actively implementing measures to revamp water management frameworks, including plans to reduce leakage, upgrade canals, and deploy water-efficient technologies. He confirmed that all relevant departments are aligned to expedite the execution of President Zardari’s directives.
