In a stirring address to the National Assembly today, Pakistan Peoples Party leader and Member of the National Assembly Sehar Kamran warned that “we stand as if on the brink of an unforeseen war,” underscoring the gravity of current regional tensions.

Highlighting Pakistan’s robust deterrence, she declared, “Our nuclear capability is so strong that the people have full confidence in it,” and paid tribute to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as the visionary who gifted Pakistan its atomic program: “I salute Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for bequeathing us this nuclear strength.”

Invoking patriotic poetry, Ms. Kamran vowed the nation’s resolve:

خونِ دل دے کر نکھاریں گے رخ برگِ گلاب
ہم نے گلشن کے تحفظ کی قسم کھائی ہے

“With the blood of our hearts we shall nourish the rose’s petals—
We have sworn to guard the garden.”

She affirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to defending its sovereignty and dignity, recalling the courage of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto: “Benazir challenged the terrorists and gave her life for it.”

Turning to India’s recent accusations, she stated unequivocally, “The Pakistani nation rejects every baseless Indian allegation,” and paid homage to the extraordinary sacrifices made by ordinary citizens in the fight against terrorism.

On water security, Ms. Kamran warned that any move to terminate the Indus Waters Treaty would breach international law: “Calling water a weapon is unacceptable. We know how to protect our water resources, and no party can unilaterally abrogate this treaty.”

Through a blend of firm warnings and poetic resolve, Sehar Kamran’s speech conveyed a clear message: Pakistan is prepared to defend its people, its strategic assets, and its fundamental resources against all threats.
